Kandinsky - La musique des couleurs
Our culture pick of the moment : we recommend the exhibition Kandinsky – La Musique des Couleurs (The Music of Colors) and invite you to book your tickets at the same time as your stay directly on our official website.
Vassily Kandinsky holds a special place at Hôtel Eiffel Blomet, both literally and figuratively: one of his paintings welcomes you as soon as you step into our lobby. It is only natural, then, that we encourage you to discover this exceptional exhibition. From October 15th, 2025 to February 1st, 2026, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Centre Pompidou join forces to unveil an unprecedented dialogue between painting and music, showing how music shaped Kandinsky’s artistic journey and his path toward abstraction.
A Unique Encounter Between Music and Painting
For Kandinsky, music was never a secondary art—it was a model, a profound source of inspiration. An amateur cellist, passionate about Wagner and close to avant-garde musicians of his time, he infused his canvases with a sense of musicality. From his Improvisations to his later Compositions, he explored the dissolution of natural forms in favor of an abstract pictorial language where shapes and colors resonate like notes.
An Immersive Experience at the Heart of Modernity
The exhibition situates Kandinsky’s work within the vibrant musical landscape of the early 20th century. From Scriabin to Schoenberg, from Mussorgsky to Stravinsky, it evokes the listening environment that inspired him. An immersive audio journey enhances the visit, weaving subtle correspondences between music, form, and color, and offering a fresh perspective on his oeuvre.
The Cabinet of a Music Lover
More than one hundred works and objects from international collections compose an imaginary “music lover’s cabinet,” revealing Kandinsky’s fascination with sound. Scores, photographs, records, engravings, and books illustrate his search for the “sound” of colors and his desire to achieve a synthesis of the arts.
Toward a Synthesis of the Arts
Paintings, drawings, poems, stage projects, and installations all resonate together to reflect Kandinsky’s unified vision. The exhibition invites us to rediscover painting as a sensory and performative experience, reconnecting with the visionary force of an artist who transformed music into a painting of the soul.
